About Us
Dr. Matt DeStefano, PT, DPT
Onsight Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy is a Sports Medicine clinic specializing in rock climbing injuries and research. Before attending medical school, Dr. Matt was working at Mesa Rim rock climbing gym in San Diego, California. When he left for the University of Colorado, he had the dream to return to Mesa Rim as an “on-site” Physical Therapist. Four years later he returned as a Coach and Team Doctor for the Mesa Rim youth competitive climbing team and opened up the Onsight Sports Medicine clinic at the gym.
- Clinical Doctorate: Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus.
- Committed to bringing you up-to-date, research-based information regarding climbing injuries.
- Onsight Sports Medicine is closely tied with a climbing gym.
- Sports medicine is our specialty. We work with all "mountain athletes". In the end, we're all athetes in our own right.
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Climber | Biker | Advocate
My professional interests are in sports medicine orthopedics with a focus on rock climbing, mountain biking, yoga, functional movement and all mountain athletes. No matter what your interests are, if you want to live an active and healthy lifestyle or return after an injury, I can help you.
My main medical focus is with rock climbing injuries. I am an avid rock climber who enjoys the balance between physical prowess and mental fortitude allowing us to execute moves at extreme limits of performance. Having spent a large majority of my life living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I have an affinity for the mountains and the climbing they provide. With that said, climbing is inherently stressful on the body, so I like to research how we can climb at our limit while still maintaining healthy bodies. I truly enjoy teaching people about their bodies and how to perform optimally and safely.
I also love bikes. I grew up riding BMX in the woods of Long Island, NY spending my days building and riding dirt jumps with friends. When I was living in New Zealand, I was introduced to mountain biking through downhill (DH) riding and everything clicked. On a DH mountain bike I was able to go so much faster and much bigger than I had ever gone on my BMX. Having the inner love for two wheels, it was love at first sight. I still ride BMX on occasion but most of my bike time is on my Santa Cruz Nomad. I ride road/gravel bikes as well for personal liberation, and I also dabble in motorcycles as well. If it has two wheels, I’m into it.
I hope you find the information on this site useful in providing a way to enhance your skills, prevent injuries, or recover from the unfortunate accident. Let’s inspire you to live an active lifestyle!
